Pumping up the bikini necessities 🍑 Bodybuilders Pumping up the bikini necessities 🍑

Bodybuilders “pump up” before stepping on stage to make their muscles look fuller, harder and more visually impressive under stage lighting.

When you perform short sets with bands, dumbbells, push-ups, etc - blood and fluid are driven into the working muscles. That temporarily increases muscle volume and improves separation, which can make shoulders look rounder, lats wider, arms fuller and the overall physique appear denser.

It also helps with a few other things:

* Improves muscle fullness: especially useful when competitors are depleted from dieting and peak-week manipulation.
* Enhances definition: a fuller muscle pressing against thin skin can make lines and separation more obvious.
* Improves vascularity: increased blood flow can make veins more prominent.
* Warms the body up: posing usually looks better when the muscles are warm rather than cold and flat.
* Improves mind–muscle connection: a light pump can make it easier to actively flex and control specific muscles during posing.

The key is not to overdo it. Too much pumping can cause fatigue, excessive sweating, cramping, or make a muscle look overly swollen and obscure detail. Competitors also usually avoid heavily pumping muscles that they don’t want visually dominant- for example, a bikini competitor might focus more on shoulders, glutes and upper back rather than aggressively pumping quads.

Seeing my client excited step out on stage for her first show or how genuinely happy for her the athlete behind her is? 🥹

What people don’t realise is while bodybuilding is an “individual” sport… the community within it is so special. Once you’re backstage you know that everyone has given their absolute best to get to that point and whilst there can only be one “winner”… just getting to that point is the real victory.

The friendships forged through prep and backstage hit different 🖤
